Profile

Nathan Dietrich is assistant vice chancellor for Advocacy and State Relations. He leads the CSU’s Office of Advocacy and State Relations, which represents and advocates for the CSU’s interests with California state government through compelling advocacy, outreach, communication and relationships with the governor’s office, legislature, state agencies and other external entities, all with the support of the Chancellor’s Office, university staff, alumni and other CSU constituencies. Nathan came to the position from Sacramento State, where he most recently served as associate vice president for public affairs and advocacy. In this role, Nathan spearheaded the university’s government and community relations efforts while cultivating relationships with elected officials and staff. Before joining Sacramento State, Nathan worked for Congressman Robert Matsui from 2002 to 2005 and Congresswoman Doris Matsui from 2005 to 2015. He served as Congresswoman Matsui’s primary liaison with elected officials and stakeholders, leading her involvement in critical regional projects. Nathan holds bachelor’s degrees in political science and communication from University of California, Davis and a master’s degree in public administration and a certificate in political management from USC.
